Signs that can help identify a psychopathic man

Psychopathy develops against the background of dysfunctions of the nervous system. With this pathology, the patient’s behavior differs from the rules accepted in society.

Psychopaths lack many of the human feelings: empathy, gratitude, compassion. But due to his developed intellect, the patient successfully portrays the necessary emotions.

Timely identification of psychopathy, the signs of which in men are manifested primarily by emotional instability, will help protect oneself from a person suffering from manic states.

What is psychopathy

In modern medical literature, the term “psychopathy” is not used. It was replaced by the concept of “personality disorder”. It was proposed to abandon the outdated terminology due to the fact that this name is negative.

Psychopaths lack many of the human feelings: empathy, gratitude, sympathy

Psychopathy is a personality abnormality. With this disease, the behavior of the sick person changes depending on the form of the disorder.

With psychopathy, there are no symptoms of brain damage, which indicates that the patient has developed intelligence. Psychopaths are primarily selfish, for whom it is important to be the center of attention. In such individuals, leadership qualities coexist with emotional imbalance.

Experts cannot definitively answer whether personality disorder is a mental illness. They evaluate this state as the line between a pathological state of mind and a healthy one.

But psychologists clearly agree on one thing - this condition requires treatment.

Seven signs your partner is a psychopath

At first glance, it seems that meeting a psychopath is quite difficult. However, in reality this is not the case. According to statistics, for every 100 people there is one with an unbalanced psyche. According to these data, there are as many “psychopaths” in the world as there are teachers. And this is already causing concern.

Usually, when people hear the word “psychopath,” they imagine an aggressive monster, a terrible criminal, or a serial killer like Chikatilo. But in reality, such people are difficult to distinguish from the majority. Not only do they not inspire fear, but, on the contrary, they inspire trust, which can cause quarrels and disappointments. To avoid accidentally letting a “psychopath” into your life, The Daily Mail cited several signs of potentially dangerous people.

Especially for 5-tv.ru, Stanislav Poltorak, associate professor of the department of psychotherapy at the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov, commented on the highlighted features. There are several types of psychopathy, each of which has its own characteristics.

- Hysterical psychopaths demand attention, schizoid ones surprise with their non-standard reasoning, excitable ones show aggression, epileptoid ones demand scrupulousness in small things, and psychasthenics only doubt and worry. However, all of them at the compensation stage (initial stage) adapt to social conditions and differ little from the rest. As soon as a mental disorder reaches an extreme degree, “psychopaths” experience maladjustment, during which they can pose a real danger to others.

Pathological lies

The main feature of unbalanced people is constant lying. These people can't tell the truth. They lie for or without benefit. Interestingly, “psychopaths” can achieve their goals faster than others. It will not be difficult for them to adapt to those around them, abandon previous values, change their minds - and all this just to impress the public.

They “lead” their partner by the nose, and they do it well. Beautiful, pompous speeches that inspire confidence are their strong point, and it’s unlikely that anyone can compare with them in this regard. “Psychopaths” are excellent at throwing dust into their eyes, and it is almost impossible to catch them in a lie. Everything is very well thought out and logical.

“Hysterics always want to be the center of attention. They demand interest in their person and achieve it by all means,” the expert explains. — At first glance, it seems that such people are quite charismatic. However, charisma in their case is imaginary, there is nothing hidden behind it.”

Pathological lies are also common among emotionally unstable psychopaths. People with such a deviation are accustomed to constantly changing masks, point of view and giving up their words. They lie a lot and don't even notice it.

Narcissism

Unlike most people who suffer from low self-esteem, those with low self-esteem tend to think of themselves as better than they really are. They are confident in their abilities and believe that, if desired, they can achieve any success. The other half of a “psychopath” has a hard time: these people suppress their partner’s self-esteem and make them feel like a failure.

“Not every unbalanced person can suppress the self-esteem of their partner. Only epileptoid and excitable “psychopaths” suffer from this. The first want everything to clearly correspond to the planned plan and be scheduled minute by minute, the second want to shout and fight, trying to convince their opponent, notes Stanislav Poltorak, associate professor of the department of psychotherapy. - In any case, each of them can influence the opinion and self-esteem of their interlocutor. Both epileptoid and excitable psychopaths “bend” their partner to suit themselves, although they do it in different ways.”

Selfishness

It seems that “psychopaths” have collected all the negative qualities within themselves. They are rightfully considered not only “narcissists”, but also terrible egoists. Unbalanced people are alien to the fears and illnesses of others. They do not know how to empathize and worry. In life they do not care about any problems other than their own, but the relatives of the “psychopaths” do not think so. They are good at portraying empathy and inspiring trust. Friends share their experiences with them and do not notice that their interlocutor is not at all interested in the subject of conversation.

Of course, not all “psychopaths” are insensitive egoists, but they are good at suppressing sincere impulses and distancing themselves from the grief of others at the right moment.

“The named features are characteristic of psychopaths of the hysterical and schizoid types. They are the ones who are able to evoke sympathy in people thanks to their interesting behavior and unconventional thinking,” says Sergei Poltorak, associate professor of the department of psychotherapy.

It is worth noting that each person has his own characteristics that distinguish him from others: some traits are more pronounced in him, while others are less pronounced. Disproportionality of signs leads to disharmony of the entire personality, but is not considered a mental disorder. Such vivid manifestations of individual character are called accentuations and are characteristic of absolutely everyone.

Machiavellianism

“Psychopaths” are cunning creatures. They are better than others at noticing details and using them to their advantage. It will not be difficult for them to “see through” another person, but it is unlikely that anyone will be able to “see through” a psychopath. They easily identify the strengths and weaknesses of their partner and “pull the strings” at the right moment. They are accustomed to manipulating others and cynically exploiting them. Their wishes are fulfilled one after another, as if “at the behest of a pike.” And if this does not happen, they resort to extreme measures: they begin to scream loudly and cry like children, or through “puppy requests” and direct manipulation they achieve the desired result.

“If a hysteric can still scream and cry, then an excitable psychopath will immediately hit him on the head, and a psychasthenic will do neither one nor the other,” noted Stanislav Poltorak.

Hypocrisy

Few people can change masks several times a day as easily and simply as a “psychopath.” With the woman he loves he is gentle and sensitive, at work he is strict and demanding, in company he is an understanding friend. In fact, such a person can only be honest with himself, and even then not always. For him there are no absolute values: he will easily exchange his “beloved” for another, replace an old friend with a new one, and “sell” his brother for a “cushy place” near his boss. Anyone is valued and loved, he quickly understands which side to lean on and what to add to the conversation in order to be on top.

The expert explains that this behavior is typical only for emotionally unstable psychopaths who are easily influenced by outsiders. Constant change of opinions, psychological instability, hypocrisy, posturing, pretense - these are their main signs.

Coarseness

Unbalanced people find it harder than others to control their emotions, so they often cannot cope with anger, shout and insult innocent opponents. They never feel guilty, so they force those around them to apologize, who value communication and are therefore ready to take responsibility.

“As a rule, aggression in “psychopaths” manifests itself at the stage of decompensation, when they cease to adapt to the environment and cannot control their character. Moreover, most often, outbursts of anger occur in excitable individuals who are accustomed to solving all problems with their fists,” says Sergei Poltorak.

Anger

“Psychopaths” not only do not rejoice at their partner’s successes, but are also upset because of them. They strive to surpass their other half in everything, and if this does not work out, then they envy and try in every possible way to interfere with the success of the other. They often demotivate their partner by calling his activities boring and useless. A “psychopath” can be compared to a parasite: he extracts maximum benefit from the relationship, while leaving his other half without everything.

“Anger, like rudeness, is usually found in excitable “psychopaths.” At the stage of maladjustment, it becomes especially noticeable, which is why “psychopaths” in this case are often brought to a specialist. A patient with a mental disorder is prescribed medications and a course of psychotherapy, which can last from a couple of months to decades, it all depends on the treatment methods, the severity of the disease and the patient’s motivation,” says Sergei Poltorak, associate professor of the department of psychotherapy.

Earlier, 5-tv.ru told why patients lie to doctors.

How to behave as a woman with a psychopathic husband

A person with a personality disorder seeks to emotionally destroy his victim.

In this regard, you need to know how to protect yourself from a psychopath and how to behave correctly with him:

  • At the first manifestation of reproaches or nagging from a sick person, it is better for a woman to pretend to be very busy. In moments of exacerbation with such people, it is important to keep a distance.
  • Convey information to your loved ones and friends that your “beloved” man has a personality disorder. You definitely need to create your own support group.
  • He is wary of any behavior of a man.
  • Don't take your psychopathic husband's word for it. All information received from him must be analyzed and verified.
  • If a sick person is prone to violence, it is worth coming up with an “exit plan.” Learn the phone numbers of loved ones who can help in an emergency. It won’t hurt to have a spare mobile phone, the existence of which no one will know. Spare house and car keys should always be on hand.
  • It is important to maintain financial independence or, secretly from the sick person, open a personal bank account in case of escape.
  • When dealing with a psychopath, it is important to remain steadfast. The decision made must be firm and irrevocable.
  • Any information should be conveyed to a psychopathic husband in a calm, quiet, but firm voice. He must understand that no manipulation will work.
  • In response to the attacks of a psychopath, you should not show irritation and fear. He should see calm and confidence even when a person is very frightened.
  • Be careful when sharing information about a breakup. It is better to do this in the presence of a stranger. Typically, the victim's attempts to break off the relationship are perceived by the psychopath with aggression and rage.

Who are psychopaths and their differences?

Psychopaths are people who, from the first meeting, charm and evoke sympathy with their charisma and intelligence. There is no noticeable nervousness or excitement in their behavior, they do not stutter and do not experience any complexes. They give the impression of a stable, confident person.

With all this, they:

  • manipulators. They force you to do everything the way they need it, so that all your friends and family will follow the line, they bring you to tears and hysterics. They manipulate with the help of bad moods, shouting, threats, blackmail;
  • extremely unreliable. If they promised something, they never fulfill it;
  • they live without plans for the future, they have no life prospects, no intuition;
  • They like to exaggerate their sense of self-importance. They demand special treatment, attention, honors, find fault with little things, and constantly “pump” their rights. Such people like to say that they have some kind of special destiny, a special purpose, and only an accident prevented them from becoming, at a minimum, president;
  • pathological liars. They lie constantly, without any self-interest, so they often get into trouble. It’s easy to catch them lying because they don’t think about verisimilitude and will deny that they said it;
  • feel the need for mental stimulation. These people are addicted to adrenaline, they get bored when nothing happens, everything is quiet and calm, they don’t know how to keep themselves busy and entertained. They definitely need to arrange something: a feast, a scandal, a provocation;
  • never experience remorse or shame. Whether it is major or minor offenses, even if they kill a person, they do not feel guilt or regret, they always blame someone else who, in their opinion, is to blame;
  • short-sighted. They are not able to learn from experience, do not draw conclusions from the past, from actions that caused harm to themselves;
  • pathological egoists. They completely lack the ability to love;
  • unemotional. For example, a psychopath can see something happening in front of him: a fight, murder or torture, he will calmly look at it and not react in any way, will not intervene to protect the weak, does not feel pity;
  • indifferent. Cold in interpersonal relationships. Sex life is just sex for the sake of sex, no matter what kind of partner;
  • Psychopaths have strange, unmotivated behavior both sober and under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In this state they become more aggressive, unpredictable, strange, frightening people.

Causes of psychopathy

Statistics indicate that 2% of the world's inhabitants suffer from psychopathy. Of the total number of patients, the male part of the population accounts for 80% of the sick.

If a wife wants to leave her psychopathic partner, she should not succumb to feelings of guilt.

At the same time, people with personality disorders are often very successful and occupy leadership positions. Doctors cannot name the exact cause of the development of the disease.

But risk factors include:

  • birth injuries;
  • heredity;
  • infectious diseases suffered in childhood;
  • the occurrence of hypoxia during intrauterine development;
  • excessive care of loved ones;
  • psychological shock at an early age;
  • long stay away from family or upbringing in a government institution;
  • unfavorable environmental conditions;
  • lack of attention.

Experts agree that psychopaths often grow up in single-parent families. These reasons are not obligatory factors in the development of a personality disorder. But their presence can give impetus to this.

Types, forms and types of psychopathy

The world medical community has established a classification of psychopathy. There are 5 main types of disorders. Each type is endowed with characteristic features.

Hysterical psychopath

A person with hysterical disorder strives for recognition of himself as an individual and, in connection with this, demonstrates to others his superiority and importance.

Such people introduce notes of theatricality into their behavior: they gesticulate strongly, sob uncontrollably, and enthusiastically hug.

They are also characterized by a pathological form of lying. Psychopaths of this type are extremely infantile and strive to be the center of attention. A striking example of this type is the comic book character Harvey Dent.

Schizoid psychopath

A distinctive feature of this “category” of people is vulnerability. At the same time, patients with schizoid disorder are despotic. They have a pronounced pedantry.

They are hostile to their social environment. They have a complete lack of empathy. Dr. Mengele was a schizoid psychopath who experimented on people in Auschwitz.

Paranoid psychopath

Paranoid people set super-goals for themselves.

A distinctive feature of a schizoid psychopath is vulnerability

Their distinctive features:

  • high egocentrism;
  • limited interests;
  • narrowness of thinking;
  • high self-esteem;
  • excessive suspicion;
  • intense jealousy.

Patients with paranoid disorder constantly invent ill-wishers for themselves. An outstanding representative of this form of psychopathy is Adolf Hitler.

Asthenic psychopath

Individuals with this type of disorder experience:

  • increased anxiety;
  • sensitivity;
  • maladjustment;
  • timidity;
  • uncertainty.

Asthenics’ life plans are divorced from reality. They constantly exhibit obsessions and a passion for self-examination.

Dissocial psychopath

The patient exhibits persistent antisocial behavior, which manifests itself:

  • impulsiveness;
  • lack of guilt;
  • inability to maintain long-term close relationships;
  • aggressiveness;
  • lack of pitchfork strength.

Treatment of psychopathy

When the disorder is detected early (in adolescence), psychiatrists prescribe “treatment” in the form of social influence, paying special attention to family relationships and education at school.

Self-confidence is good, but the main thing here is the ability to soberly assess your qualities

Psychopathic men are hired in accordance with their mental make-up and level of intelligence.

Psychotherapeutic methods of treatment are simultaneously applied to the patient:

  • meditation;
  • frequent conversations;
  • auto-training;
  • hypnosis;
  • family therapy.

If necessary, patients are prescribed drug therapy.

The choice of medication depends on the form of psychopathy.

  • Hysterical individuals are recommended to take antidepressants and tranquilizers. Persons with weak emotional instability are prescribed herbal preparations (motherwort, valerian, St. John's wort).
  • Schizoid psychopaths are treated primarily with cognitive therapy. Drug correction makes no sense. They are recommended to take only sedatives.
  • Paranoid psychopaths are treated with tranquilizers and antipsychotics.
  • When treating dissocial psychopaths, it is recommended to take psychotropic drugs that relieve attacks of hysteria and aggression.
  • Asthenic psychopaths are prescribed antipsychotics , which help reduce the severity of obsessions.

Specialists resort to drug treatment only in exceptional cases. First of all, they try to cope with the personality disorder through psychotherapy.

Signs of psychopathy

According to statistics, 2% of the world's population is susceptible to psychopathy

difficult to recognize a person suffering from this pathology . And yet some distinctive features exist . If you notice them in a person, try to be careful and do not provoke him.

The most characteristic signs include the following:

  • inconsistency of actions, many unfinished tasks;
  • lack of danger reflex;
  • groundless jealousy;
  • frequent job changes;
  • constant lies;
  • own moral rules that differ from generally accepted ones;
  • ingratitude;
  • rancor;
  • attacks others to defend himself and uses unfounded accusations to do so;
  • sexual perversion;
  • manipulating other people, using all possible and impossible methods for this;
  • lack of long-term relationships with the opposite sex;
  • passion for extreme sports;
  • quick and frequent mood changes, can easily move from a smile to aggression.

Manipulation
With all this, a mentally unbalanced person can be attractive, charming, and educated. The higher the intelligence, the more perverted the behavior can be.

Psychopathic men can have success in society and in professional activities. They think through their behavior in society to the smallest detail .

Women often become victims of charming psychopaths

After the wedding, husbands stop pretending and their true colors are revealed. Behind the walls of the house, hiding from human eyes, they become real tyrants and do not hesitate to beat their other half. They constantly play with a woman's feelings . After outbursts of anger, they ask for forgiveness and promise that this will not happen again. Because of this, their wives tolerate them to the last, hoping for the best.

Women suffering from this disease are susceptible to frequent depression, which is accompanied by outbursts of anger and joy. They neglect the feelings of other people and skillfully manipulate them. With all this, they are of interest to men.

Depression

Among the famous personalities suffering from psychopathy are Beethoven, Van Gogh, Newton, Edgar Allan Poe, and Lincoln.

Why psychopaths are considered consummate lovers

Men with personality disorders do not have feelings for women. But they can demonstrate them masterfully, showing fearlessness and self-confidence.

An ideal man appears before a woman, with whom she feels comfortable. The psychopathic partner, unlike his normal “brothers,” cannot stand time.

He closes the distance with lightning speed and immediately gets down to business. This behavior is perceived by a woman as proof of love.
