Can you feel nauseous with VSD and how to get rid of nausea

Vegetative-vascular dystonia is characterized by a wide range of symptoms that negatively affect a person’s condition. If a person has this pathology, then it is important to take therapeutic and preventive measures to improve well-being.

The disease itself is not considered dangerous. Moreover, it can lead to complications if the patient does not take care of his health. People often complain that they are bothered by nausea during VSD.

The disease can indeed manifest itself in a similar way, for this reason it is definitely worth finding out exactly whether the unpleasant symptom was really provoked by vegetative-vascular dystonia. If suspicions are confirmed, then the person should begin the treatment prescribed by the doctor.

The most common causes of nausea

I think each of us has experienced nausea more than once in our lives.
Moreover, the older we get, the more pathological conditions accompanied by such an unpleasant and annoying symptom come our way. Unfortunately, most often these are far from harmless diseases. After all, even a banal food poisoning without proper medical intervention can lead to disastrous consequences. Therefore, I consider it appropriate to remind you of the main reasons for this condition before we talk about why you feel sick with VSD.

So, poisoning will rightfully take the leading place in the list of causes of nausea. Not necessarily food. These could be vapors of toxic substances or emissions from hazardous industries. Not less often, the above-described symptom occurs against the background of organic lesions of the gastrointestinal tract (gastritis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis), infectious (salmonellosis, dysentery) and parasitic (giardiasis, helminthiasis) diseases.

Nausea can occur both during physiological (for example, pregnancy) and pathological conditions: during hypertensive crises or cerebrovascular accidents in the vertebrobasilar system.

It is very important at this moment to pay attention to the accompanying manifestations of the disease - vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, increased body temperature, that is, try to objectively assess your condition. You should remember: what did you eat the day before, were you near dangerous industries, is your blood pressure now elevated? This will help you and the doctor, even before carrying out special examination methods, to at least indirectly determine the cause of the observed nausea.

How does it manifest?

The human autonomic system is capable of acutely reacting to weather changes, stress, and lack of sleep.

Negative factors negatively affect the normal functioning of the body; malfunctions occur, which in case of VSD are manifested by the following symptoms:

  • Dizziness;
  • Frequent headaches;
  • Nausea, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract, vomiting;
  • Rapid heartbeat:
  • Feelings of fear and panic;
  • The patient vomits for no reason;
  • Feelings of weakness and indifference;
  • Lightheadedness, lightheadedness
  • Noise in ears;
  • Weight loss;
  • Drowsiness;
  • Fainting;
  • Sudden mood swings, suspiciousness;
  • Shortness of breath.

With VSD, malfunctions that occur in the human body leave an imprint on the functioning of all systems and negatively affect health. With random narrowing and dilation of blood vessels, the body cannot function normally. This manifests itself in the symptoms described above.

How to determine the source of the problem

VSD is considered a diagnosis of exclusion. Therefore, before attributing nausea to the clinical manifestations of this particular disease, the doctor will not only carefully and scrupulously collect your medical history, but will also force you to undergo quite a lot of examinations, and will also refer you for consultation to other specialists.

More often, vegetative-vascular dystonia affects individuals with an unstable emotional background and those who are easily excitable. Women and adolescents are most suitable for this description, to whom this pathology is attributed in 80% of cases.

Usually, nausea during an attack of VSD is not isolated. This means that there is a whole complex of symptoms, and not a single disorder. The clinical picture of the disease we are discussing is truly multifaceted and includes complaints from many organs and systems. The latter, in most cases, allows us to suspect the true cause of the violations.

Thus, paroxysm may be accompanied by loss of appetite, rapid breathing and heartbeat, a sharp drop or increase in blood pressure, sweating, vomiting and abdominal pain. Often there is a feeling of fear, anxiety, trembling in the body. The list of symptoms could go on for a long time.

The main thing you must understand is that the sudden appearance of such a clinic is almost always preceded by a stressful situation, accompanied by a strong psycho-emotional shock. We can say that vegetative-vascular dystonia is a disease that “comes from our head,” that is, it is largely associated with personal feelings and experiences.

Therefore, you should not be wary or biased towards the doctor, who, after clarifying your medical history and conducting additional research, will give you a referral for a consultation with a psychotherapist or psychologist.

The main, but I emphasize that it is far from mandatory, diagnostic measures in case of patient complaints of nausea will be:

  • clinical and biochemical tests of blood and urine - to exclude diseases of an infectious nature, kidney and liver pathologies;
  • Ultrasound of the abdominal organs and retroperitoneal space, fibroesophagogastroduodenoscopy (FGDS) to identify damage to the digestive system;
  • MRI or CT of the brain, Doppler sonography, triplex or duplex scanning of extra- and intracranial vessels, because the cause of such a disorder can be tumors of the central nervous system, stenosis of the arteries of the vertebrobasilar circle.

With vegetative-vascular dystonia, no organic pathology is diagnosed, or the severity of complaints does not correspond to the detected changes. To learn what this diagnosis is, watch the video at the link below.

Treatment of vegetative-vascular dystonia

The key to successful treatment of nausea and vomiting in vegetative-vascular dystonia is an integrated approach. There is no diagnosis of VSD as such. The main task of the doctor is to exclude concomitant diseases. You may need to consult an endocrinologist or psychotherapist.

If a person leads a sedentary lifestyle, VSD, in addition to nausea, may be accompanied by the following symptoms:

  • hiccups;
  • pain in the right hypochondrium;
  • diarrhea;
  • poor digestion of food;
  • belching;
  • heartburn.

Treatment for nausea and other symptoms of VSD should include:

  1. Elimination of harmful foods from the diet. Drinking alcoholic beverages has a detrimental effect on the condition of the body as a whole. In addition, it leads to impaired elasticity of blood vessels and narrowing of the lumen, the appearance of another spasm in them.
  2. Increased anxiety can be relieved by taking sedatives: if necessary, you will need to undergo a course of psychotherapy.
  3. Sports: physical activity should be dosed. Cardio exercises are preferable: running, swimming, water aerobics.
  4. Compliance with the daily routine and rest. Sleep at least 8 hours, and for hypotensive people 9-10. Stay in the fresh air more, avoid overwork.

Herbs and herbs to relieve symptoms of nausea
To relieve symptoms of exacerbation, the doctor will prescribe symptomatic therapy.

Physiotherapeutic treatment has a good effect on vegetative nausea. A relaxing massage and relaxation with water procedures are useful. In your free time, it is recommended to attend yoga courses, learn breathing techniques, and do things that guarantee positive emotions and help remove fear.

Auxiliary methods for nausea

An excellent method is to train vascular tone using a contrast shower: start with a small area of the body, gradually increasing its area. During an acute attack of nausea, washing with cold water normalizes the action of the sympathetic nervous system. The anxiety will pass, and so will the nausea.

Relaxing massage at the first sign of nausea

Acupuncture massage of the wrist involves rubbing a special point on it for several minutes. This simple activity can relieve nausea of any origin.

How to recognize VSD from afar? A person suffering from this syndrome is quick-tempered, prone to mood swings, and suspicious. He may be in a bad mood for no reason and likes to complain and talk about his symptoms. This lifestyle becomes a habit, so it is important to recognize your illness and break out of the vicious circle.

Doctors often say about such patients: “getting lost in the hospital corridors.” It is worth realizing that there is no serious illness, and the reason for what is happening lies in behavior and poor psychological health. Everything that is happening now is temporary and will go away, you just have to want it.

Interesting information on the topic can be obtained from the video:

Why does VSD cause nausea?

Against the background of VSD, nausea occurs during weather changes, as well as at the time of even minor emotional upheavals. In this case, either a sympathoadrenal or vagoinsular crisis develops. The first is characterized by an increase in arterial and intracranial pressure, a rush of blood to the muscles and, accordingly, its outflow from the abdominal organs. The feeling of fullness in the stomach causes discomfort and sometimes vomiting. The second type of paroxysm, on the contrary, is accompanied by hypotension and increased peristaltic activity of the stomach and intestines, which can also provoke the appearance of the above-mentioned symptom and diarrhea.

Recommendations for getting rid of nausea

In order to get rid of vomiting due to dystonia, a comprehensive examination of the body and correct diagnosis of the disease are needed. Drug therapy is of secondary importance in the treatment of somatic diseases. It is important that the patient has a desire to overcome the disease.

If vomiting due to dystonia does not go away, then complex therapy is used, i.e. follows:

  • exclude foods harmful to the stomach;
  • add healthy foods to your diet;
  • normalize the emotional background by taking sedatives;
  • dose physical activity;
  • get rid of anxiety, stress, ensure proper rest;
  • take gastroprotectors, painkillers and antispastic drugs as prescribed by your doctor.

It is necessary to relieve tension, and light sedatives will help. An examination by a doctor and the exclusion of organic gastrointestinal diseases lead to the correct interpretation of the symptoms that appear. Treatment is prescribed by a neurologist, therapist and psychiatrist after the diagnosis has been clarified.

Clinical case

To confirm the connection between nausea during VSD and emotions, I would like to talk about one patient whom I observed about a year ago.
A young guy (25 years old) sought medical help with complaints of a sharp bursting headache, severe nausea, palpitations, and chest pain. The symptoms appeared after a conflict in the family. I have not noted any health problems before. During the examination, the following changes were found: heart rate – 96 beats/min, blood pressure – 140/100 mm Hg, hyperhidrosis of the skin, pain when moving the eyeballs, tremors in the hands. The patient was emotionally depressed. The preliminary diagnosis was “Vegetative-vascular dystonia with a paroxysmal type of course.” During the examination, a clinical analysis of blood and urine, an ECG, ultrasound of the abdominal organs and retroperitoneal space, and MRI of the brain were performed. Due to the absence of organic pathology, the diagnosis of VSD was confirmed. The patient received Anaprilin, Cerucal, Afobazol, Glycine, Cytoflavin, Piracetam. He was also sent for a consultation with a neurologist, who additionally prescribed Persen and Phenibut. The condition improved within two weeks.

What is VSD

Vegetovascular dystonia is a somatic disease. According to medical research over the past 40 years, every third patient has been diagnosed with VSD. Vegetative syndrome appears with prolonged exposure to stress of various origins or in the presence of mental pathology. The disease affects the cardiovascular and peripheral nervous systems.

The autonomic nervous system controls the functioning of internal organs and glands: heartbeat, breathing, sweating, salivation, secretion of gastric juices, body temperature, etc. These actions are not controlled by human consciousness.

How to get rid of symptoms

Of course, one of the most important points for the patient is the treatment of pathology. In this section we will look at how you can simply get rid of nausea during VSD.

Since the disease we are considering does not have an organic basis, in other words, there is no damage to any of the organs, then there is no single remedy for its treatment.

Usually, doctors resort to prescribing symptomatic therapy - the patient takes a drug to combat a particular manifestation of the pathology. For example, if it is an increased heart rate and increased blood pressure, use the beta blocker “Anaprilin”.

Cerucal, also known as Metoclopramide and Domperidone, will help quickly eliminate nausea.

But the main goal of treatment is still an attempt to prevent the development of repeated paroxysms of VSD. This will require communication with a psychologist or psychotherapist who can resolve the internal emotional problems that provoked the disease. It would also be useful to take sedatives (Afobazol, Persen, Adaptol), and sometimes antidepressants (Sertraline, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine).

Drug therapy

Treatment of VSD involves the use of mild sedatives. Valerian tincture helps a lot. It helps eliminate not only nausea, but also such unpleasant symptoms as trembling limbs and nervous itching. You can also drink it if you are afraid of nausea.

If the clinical picture is very pronounced, and the patient’s condition is considered severe, he is prescribed Etapyrazine. It is an antipsychotic with a powerful antiemetic effect. At the same time, the remedy helps to cope with fear and tension.

The best drugs

Nausea during stress and VSD can also be relieved with other medications. The most effective ones are presented in the table.

Expert advice

There is no need to be afraid of turning to “healers of the soul”, because the root of the problem of nausea with VSD, as well as other symptoms of this disease, lies precisely in emotional disturbances.
By putting your thoughts in order, you can achieve long-term remission. Yoga classes, communication with animals, and so-called animal-assisted therapy will be no less effective. A visit to the pool will also have a beneficial effect on the healing process. It is worth setting aside time for your favorite hobby. All of the above refers to non-drug treatment methods, but, nevertheless, they play a leading role in the fight against attacks of VSD, accompanied by vivid symptoms.

Lack of air

Lack of air and suffocation with dystonia are symptoms that are very unpleasant, but tolerable. The main goal is to try to understand that such a condition cannot be dangerous.

In many cases, treatment includes psychotherapy. What is this technique?

  • The patient must understand what is happening in his body during an attack;
  • A person must be able to relax and control his exacerbation.

We recommend reading: Table: 200+ drugs prescribed for the treatment of VSD symptoms

When the patient understands that the symptoms are not life-threatening, exacerbation of the condition occurs much less frequently.

Correct actions in situations where a dystonic patient does not have enough air during VSD will reduce the frequency of symptoms to a minimum level. We also recommend reading the following sections of our website on this topic:
