Characteristics of Betaserc
This is a drug that is a synthetic analogue of histamine. Available in the form of tablets and syrup. The main component is betahistine dihydrochloride. The main effect of the medication is aimed at improving the circulation of lymph and blood in the vestibular nuclei of the brain and the structures of the inner ear. The drug increases the amount of histamine, which effectively dilates capillaries and improves blood circulation in the tissues of the inner ear and in the brain.
The drug normalizes the functioning of the vestibular apparatus after surgery to remove the nerve, which allows the patient to recover faster. In addition, the medication reduces the excitation of the part of the brain that regulates the functioning of the vestibular apparatus. Due to this, Betaserc is used to treat the following diseases: labyrinthitis, Meniere’s disease, vertigo, etc.
The drug allows you to quickly stop attacks of dizziness, reduce tinnitus and improve hearing when it decreases.
By taking the medication regularly, you can reduce the intensity and frequency of dizziness attacks. The condition improves after taking the first tablets, but a lasting effect is observed only after 2 weeks. The best result is observed 1 month after the start of treatment.
Indications for use:
- Meniere's disease;
- dropsy of the labyrinth and inner ear;
- pain and tinnitus, hearing loss, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache;
- disorders of the vestibular apparatus and labyrinth.
In complex treatment, the medication is prescribed for cerebral atherosclerosis, vertebrobasilar insufficiency, and post-traumatic encephalopathy.
Contraindications include:
- pheochromocytoma;
- bronchial asthma;
- stomach and duodenal ulcers;
- first trimester of pregnancy;
- breast-feeding;
- excessive sensitivity to the components of the drug.
Pregnant women in the second and third trimester and children should be careful when taking the drug.

Hello, I live in Germany. I was also prescribed Betahistine here 8 years ago. It started with stuffiness in the right ear and dizziness. I was regularly tested to see how well I could hear and my ears were washed. Then the doctor prescribed Betahistine to me, he said that you can take up to 14 tablets a day, and then reduce the dose.
Well, in general, I sat on them for 2 years, on the fourth day there was a result. And he told me that the pills should always be on hand. If your head starts to feel dizzy again, take it again. Now, after eight years, it started, I’m drinking for the fourth day, the dizziness has become less, but my ear is still blocked. I will hope for a good result.

6 years ago, due to problems with cervical osteochondrosis, I was very dizzy for 3 months. So much so that it was difficult to walk, everything fell out of my hands. Despite contacting doctors and undergoing examinations (MRI of the head, ultrasound of blood vessels) as well as prescribed treatment, nothing helped. And as always in such difficult cases (when there is no improvement from doctors and their treatment), an accidentally dropped phrase from a nurse helped, who, seeing my suffering and the fact that the doctors could not help me, said “I was once dizzy and drank vestibo.” "

I take betahistine, it helped with the dizziness only after two and a half months. Now I don’t know whether to stop drinking or continue. I'm afraid if I give it up it will start to spin again. Who can tell?
Vestibo action
This is a drug that is characterized by a vasodilating effect. Produced in tablet form. The main component is betahistine, which is an analogue of histamine.
The medication has a stimulating effect on histamine receptors, promoting the dilation of blood vessels in the inner ear, increasing blood flow, increasing permeability, normalizing lymph pressure in the cochlea and in the cochlear labyrinth.
In addition, the drug has the following effects:
- improves blood supply to the brain;
- normalizes the conduction of impulses in the nerve stem of the brain;
- increases serotonin levels;
- reduces the frequency of dizziness attacks;
- improves hearing;
- reduces tinnitus.
At the same time, drowsiness is not observed, and concentration does not decrease.
Indications for use:
- vestibular disorders that arise from infectious diseases or after injuries;
- acoustic neuritis;
- Meniere's disease;
- headache, tinnitus, nausea, vomiting, balance and coordination problems;
- vertebrobasilar insufficiency;
- diseases of the labyrinth of the inner ear;
- cerebral atherosclerosis;
- benign dizziness that appears after surgery.
Contraindications include:
- exacerbation of stomach and duodenal ulcers;
- pheochromocytoma;
- bronchospasms, bronchial asthma;
- excessive sensitivity to the components of the drug;
- first trimester of pregnancy.
An overdose of Vestibo causes bronchospasm, tachycardia, hypotension, fainting, facial flushing, and headache.
Caution is recommended when taking the drug for people suffering from hypertension, pregnant and lactating women, as well as children. Most often, this drug is well tolerated, but sometimes side effects such as headache, allergic reactions, and dyspepsia may develop. In case of overdose, the following symptoms occur: bronchospasm, tachycardia, hypotension, fainting, dizziness, feeling of heat, facial flushing, headache.
Directions for use and dosage
The drug is prescribed orally during meals. The dose should be adjusted individually depending on the response to treatment.
For adults, the dose is 24-48 mg per day.
Dose/frequency of administration:
Betaserc® 8 mg - 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.
Betaserc® 16 mg - 1/2-1 tablet 3 times a day.
Betaserc® 24 mg - 1 tablet 2 times a day.
The 16 mg tablet and the 24 mg tablet can be divided into 2 equal parts. To do this, place the tablet on a hard surface with the ridge facing up and press it with your thumb.
Improvement is sometimes observed only after several weeks of treatment, and a stable therapeutic effect is observed after several months of treatment. There is evidence that administration of the drug at the onset of the disease prevents its progression and/or hearing loss in later stages.
In elderly patients, as well as in patients with renal and/or liver failure, no dose adjustment is required.
Doctors' opinion
Igor, 47 years old, neurologist, Moscow: “I consider Betaserc an effective drug, which I often prescribe for disorders of the vestibular system (unsteadiness of gait, tinnitus, dizziness). The drug is well tolerated and practically does not cause negative reactions in the body. It’s quite expensive, but it’s consistent with the quality.”
Stepan, 51 years old, ENT doctor, Saratov: “I often prescribe Vestibo to patients suffering from chronic and acute forms of sensorineural hearing loss and periodic dizziness. It is recommended to take the medication for 1 month. Sometimes adverse reactions of the body may develop.”

Use of BETASERC® during pregnancy and breastfeeding
There is insufficient data available on the use of betahistine in pregnant women. The potential risk to humans is unknown. The use of Betaserc® during pregnancy is possible only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
It is not known whether betahistine is excreted in breast milk. The drug should not be prescribed during breastfeeding. The question of prescribing Betaserc® to a mother should be taken only after comparing the benefits of breastfeeding with the potential risk for the infant.
